The Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects people with disabilities from
discrimination by public or private employers, programs and contractors, or places of
public accommodation. This includes people who have HIV/AIDS or are suspected of
having the disease.

If you believe you have been discriminated against because you have HIV or AIDS,
you can call the following numbers for information or help.

LEGAL ASSISTANCE

The AIDS Legal Project in Atlanta will accept collect calls at the following number
(Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 12 noon):

EMPLOYMENT
If you suspect that you are being discriminated against at work because you have HIV or AIDS, call the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for information:

HOUSING
If you suspect a landlord may have refused to rent to you because you have HIV or AIDS,call Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for information and fair housing publications:

MEDICAL CARE
If you suspect that a medical office, dental office, hospital or nursing home has discriminated against you because you have HIV or AIDS, call the Department of Justice. (See number below.)

DAY CARE
If you believe your child was refused admission to a day care center because she or he has HIV or AIDS, call the Department of Justice. (See number below.)

PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS
If you think any public accommodations, such as restaurants, gymnasiums, or hotels haverefused service to you because you have HIV or AIDS, call the Department of Justice:
