Minority AIDS InitiativeSpecial Congressional funds support the national Minority AIDS Initiative, special training and clinical capacity-building opportunities for minority clinicians and clinicians serving minority populations. SEATEC’s MAI projects include: •Longitudinal training for eight selected clinical programs across the region presenting models for clinical care that can adequately address HIV disease, mental health care, and substance abuse. These trainings are designed not only to teach theories and models, but also to improve clinical skills and capacities and to provide opportunities for clinical consultation. •Training for HBCU campus health service staff covering HIV counseling, risk reduction, testing, rapid testing, diagnosis, and referral. •Training for migrant health care sites on HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. •Workshops and preceptorships for early intervention specialists in Georgia substance abuse treatment settings who work with patients diagnosed with HIV, to expand their HIV knowledge and increase awareness of HIV community resources. •Preceptorships offer clinicians an opportunity to experience one-on-one and small-group learning in clinical environments providing mental health and substance abuse services to HIV patients. For further information on MAI projects, contact Johnetta Holcombe (jholcom@emory.edu) at 404-712-2579. Check also the Training Activities section for announcements and registration information about specific conferences and workshops. |
